Top 10 Greatest Anime Pirate Captains Of All Time- Hey guys!. In this post, I’ll be discussing a list of Top 10 Greatest Anime Pirate Captains Of All Time. Need something to entice you to start watching pirate-themed anime? Or maybe you just finished watching One Piece and are so enthralled by it that you want to see more pirate anime like it.

Hold on to your seats, because I believe you will enjoy this article. I’m going to highlight the greatest pirate anime captains from many of these pirate anime that you may have seen or may want to check out after reading this article! Well let’s go to the list!

10. Elsie Crimson From Edens Zero

pirate anime

Some may refer to Elsie Crimson as a cold queen pirate, and although this is true in its own right, Elsie still has a warm heart beneath all of her bravadoes. Elsie is on our list of Pirate Captains because she has a humorous side that enjoys seeing other people suffer, and her interaction with her crew is often very funny.

Elsie’s relationship with Shiki and the Edens Zero is odd in many ways, as is the hilarious introduction they had where Elsie had Shiki fighting a parasite instead of her stepping up to meet him herself. Elsie is a great captain, and her character was vital to the Edens Zero franchise, from her relationship with the old Edens Zero and Ziggy to her being dubbed the Armored Space Pirate.

Also, Elsie has an odd relationship with her opponents; yeah, her clashes with Justice are usually amusing and eccentric, and we all know how those two ended up.

9. Lukkage From Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet

Our antagonist captain is harsh and very powerful, but she is no match for Ledo and Chamber, who are still puzzled that people live on actual planets. This anime is highly underappreciated, and I don’t hear many people talking about it, but it has an exciting story that is similar to, but not identical to, Isekai.

I’m not sure if that made sense, but you have to see it to get what I mean. Lukkage commands the most feared pirates on the now-landless Earth, and she is ruthless when confronted by the Gargantia fleet. She’s bisexual and enjoys flirting with the female slaves who steer her ship.

Overall, Lukkage is on our list because she has immense power on this new planet, and she also switched sides to the good side in the anime’s latter half.

8. Liliana From Queen’s Blade: Rebellion

anime pirate

Captain Liliana is a terrifying undead pirate who commands a ship full of skeletons. Yes, she controls a skeleton fleet! Because of the way it depicts some of its characters and their acts, Queen’s Blade has a lot of fan service, and Captain Liliana, well, she does portray a lot of fan service! I don’t want to discuss any of the inappropriate themes in this anime, so we’ll just talk about Liliana briefly.

Liliana is a pirate captain who earned an infamous reputation for laying waste to the ships in the continent’s coastal waters. But she gets attacked by the Kraken and dies. Then she’s resurrected by the swamp Witch’s immense magical powers and she now leads skeletons to war.

7. Gol D. Roger From One Piece

anime pirate

Yes, Roger makes it to our list because the man is a freaking legend to most One Piece fans. Roger was a great captain of the Roger Pirates. He is the legendary pirate that birthed the idea of the treasure called the One Piece.

Everyone in this anime is attempting to obtain something they have never seen before, but because Roger stated that it existed, they all believed on a whim and set sail to the grand line. Roger loved his crew so much that he would retaliate for something as trifling as an insult to his crew.

I’d love to discuss more about Gol D. Roger, his accomplishments, his relationships, and his execution, but, we don’t have time for that in this article, so I’ll hope you get a sense of how brilliant Roger was from what little I’ve spoken about him.

6. Atomsk From FLCL

We’re no longer on the human scale because FLCL’s pirate captain is a bird. A massive, bright crimson bird with wings that stretch for miles! In this anime, Atomsk is also known as the Pirate King, and he can manifest entire star systems via his body using a power known as N.O.

Atomsk appears to be the galaxy’s most powerful “Space Pirate,” with an N.O. large enough to steal entire solar systems. FLCL is a Sci-Fi anime from the year 2000 with somewhat strange notions, but Atomsk was a magnificent pirate, thus he’s on our list.

5. Marika Kato From Bodacious Space Pirates

anime pirate

Marika begins as an ordinary student with a part-time job as a waitress in a café. She is approached by a shady duo who had been monitoring her and had eventually followed her to her part-time work. They inform her about her deceased father and his ties to the Bentenmaru spaceship.

She discovers her father was a brilliant space pirate and decides to follow in his footsteps, so she accepts to join the pirates aboard the Bentenmaru. As a captain, Marika prioritizes the safety of her crew and ship above all else; but, she is ready to take significant risks if doing so will reward them in the long run.

4. Phantom Harlock From Space Pirate: Captain Harlock

First and foremost, I’d want to point out that Captain Harlock’s name is not his biological name. The surname Harlock is a title carried down from generation to generation, whether through family or by giving the mantle to others. But we do know that Phantom F. Harlock is Harlock’s full name.

Captain Harlock is a space pirate with an individualist view of life and the archetypal romantic hero. Harlock is a man of honor who takes great satisfaction in his interactions with others and his ethical code. Despite their disparate personalities, he has or puts a lot of trust in his crew. Harlock never hesitates to rescue a member of his crew who has been captured or is in danger.

3. Revy From Black Lagoon

Revy is a troubled, noisy, rude, and sarcastically aggressive nihilist with a volatile personality. Revy is cruel and sadistic, and she is capable of killing anyone, including unarmed citizens.

Revy believes that money is the “one thing everyone respects and agrees on,” and as a result, she has developed an obsession with maximizing profits from each job as much as possible, such as ransoming others and looting corpses, when she feels that the lagoon is not compensated adequately for the risks involved and/or the work put in.

Revy was born in New York City as Rebecca Lee, a Chinese-American raised in the impoverished Chinatown district by an abusive, alcoholic father. Revy is the driving force behind Lagoon’s military prowess, being the team’s fighter who can defeat an entire platoon on her own. In Lagoon, she plays the Vanguard.

When her team is in danger, she is the guardian, and when the squad needs to eliminate the enemy, she is the striker. She is the sole reason Lagoon is a force to be reckoned with.

2. Kamui From Gintama

As the last captain, Kamui from Gintama is sadistic and obsessed with his own life philosophy. Kamui intended to kill his father after his mother died because he blames him for not being there for his family. Kamui’s yearning for strength was intense because he wanted to provide for his family.

For the first part of the series, Kamui is portrayed as an antagonist since his desire to be the strongest led him astray. He had numerous fights with his father and eventually turns on his sister, telling her that he has no use for weaklings. Kamui ultimately sees the light after being defeated by his weak sister.

Kamui discovers that true strength comes from having friends by your side who help you overcome adversity. Overall, Kamui develops into a superb captain later in the anime, protecting those closest to him.

1. Monkey D. Luffy From One Piece

anime pirate

Yes, Luffy is at the very top! Luffy is an outstanding pirate captain who values friendship, love, dreams, justice, and the Straw Hat Pirates. After meeting Shanks, Luffy swears to become the greatest pirate of all time. On his journeys, he meets people who join his pirate crew, and from there they create one of the best anime series ever.

Luffy’s goal is to find the One Piece treasure and become the greatest pirate in the anime. As we can see by his interactions with the crew, Luffy is a highly amusing and energetic captain. Every member of his crew holds him in such high regard that they look up to him and fully trust him. Luffy’s personality is intriguing, and it casts a favorable light on the One Piece anime.

All of Luffy’s experiences show that he has always prioritized his crew. Luffy has encountered numerous foes, and many of them revere him after their encounter. That is the amount of love and respect Luffy has gathered around him.
